Frequently asked questions.
What is a Flowcard?
Our patent pending technology allows you to bypass ammonia spikes and fish deaths from new-tank syndrome by inserting a mature biological filter on day one of your aquatic environment.
How big is a Flowcard?
Each Flowcard has familiar dimensions of about the size of a credit card. They have a 90 mm length, 60 mm height, and 3 mm width (3.54 in × 2.36 in × 0.12 in).
Where do I put my Flowcards?
Flowcards must stay wet at all times to prevent the bacteria from being lost or going dormant. Once you receive your product, it should be used as soon as possible. It’s best when placed in a sump or filter area but can safely be placed anywhere it doesn’t dry out, receives regular flow, and plenty of aeration.
How many Flowcards should I purchase?
Each Flowcard is expected to reduce the ammonia by up to .75 mg per day under optimal conditions. Your goal should be to get enough cards to keep your aquarium ammonia from spiking when adding your livestock. For fish, the amount of ammonia produced will be related to the amount of food provided and it’s composition. A decent way of estimating ammonia is by assuming about 5% of dry food weight is turned into ammonia. Using this, we suggest about 2 cards for a single betta, about 20 cards for a couple small fish, and about 100 cards for a stocked 125 gallon.
Do I still have to buy other filtration?
Filtration is paramount in keeping a healthy aquatic environment. While each setup is different, for most setups, with the right amount of cards, you are expected to satisfy the biological filter requirements of a typical system but not the chemical or mechanical requirements. The health of your system depends on meeting all of its needs.
